BPC’s consultation services
include:
- Assistance to homeowners and architects
with incorporating building science principles and green building
strategies into
ANY building plan, whether it be in the planning stage,
under construction, post completion, or an older existing home
in
need of energy improvements.
- Determine accurate heating, cooling, and domestic hot water
loads (based on our own testing experience, proven engineering
methods, and realistic insulation/air sealing values)
to provide superior comfort and energy efficiency throughout
the year.
- Define critical building envelope details
to control air, heat and moisture movement to ensure that
the
home meets our
criteria
for performance in terms of efficiency, comfort, indoor
air quality, safety, and durability.
- Recommend and specify mechanical systems to provide
efficient space heating, cooling, air filtration,
ventilation, humidification,
and dehumidification.
- Estimate construction costs for green homes based
upon our extensive experience in this area. In
summary, expect
an incremental
cost of 5% or less (with payback in less than five
years). The areas of the home where cost is added
are typically
offset by
other areas where costs are reduced. Areas where
cost reduction is often possible typically include
both
framing and the mechanical
systems.
