A great deal of planning was required in order to install a high efficiency mechanical system that could be zoned to condition the full house without creating awkward soffits. The mechanical room was tucked into a small area beneath the roof that was ideally located in order to limit the length of the duct runs. A two-stage condensing furnace distributes conditioned air via a network of sheet metal ducting with all joints air-sealed with mastic. In the lower right corner, you can see the energy recovery ventilator that provides filtered fresh air to the house. This is the ideal way to provide ventilation air efficiently to a house that has been air-sealed to eliminate unwanted air leakage and heat loss.
