Note that spray foam insulation has been installed in the roof rafter cavities only. This allowed us to install a supply air duct in the knee wall area where it is entirely within the conditioned envelope. Traditional insulating practice would be to insulate the short knee wall and the adjoining floor area under the roof, without insulating the rafter cavities themselves. This practice typically results in significant air leakage, heat loss, wasted energy, and comfort problems.
