This new home participated in the pilot phase of the LEED for Homes green building program and was certified at the silver level. Like all LEED certified homes, it features a well insulated, air-tight thermal envelope and a small, highly efficient mechanical system. In this case, a number of cutting edge technologies were used to build the house. The foundation is a pre-cast, insulated concrete panel system, and the above-grade walls were both framed and insulated using structural insulated panels (SIP). The house is oriented towards solar south to receive passive solar gain, and has both photovoltaic and thermal solar panels to generate power and hot water.
