This existing home was completely renovated by BPC in 2009. The home was registered with the US Green Building Council’s LEED for Homes green building program which recently certified the home at the top platinum tier. The house features features extremely high levels of insulation and is heated and cooled by a ground-source heat pump. It is located adjacent to the CBD of Ridgefield and features additions to three sides of an existing home. Re-using the foundation and framed structure of the existing home reduced significantly the amount of new construction materials required for the project. Most of the wood used in the home is FSC certified, including much of the framing material, the siding, and the flooring. Storm water from the roof is stored underground for irrigation, with excess water conducted to rain gardens, which feature a special soil mix and native plantings that soak it up.
