Insulation is primarily spray foam with soy content. A medium-density foam was used to achieve R-30 in the new walls and R-55 in the cathedral ceilings, with strapping used to eliminate most thermal bridging. The old walls were also strapped, but a 2lb foam was used in order to achieve R-30 in a 5” wall cavity. The walls and floor of the crawl spaces and basement were also insulated as were the rafters in the attic. This enabled us to keep all ducts for the geothermal heat pump heating and cooling system within the conditioned envelope.
