The house was built with structural insulated panels (SIPS), which is a panelized approach to home construction. Each panel is basically a sandwich, consisting of wood sheathing on either side and rigid foam board insulation in the middle. The result is a very strong frame with a high level of uninterrupted insulation in the middle and extremely low levels of air leakage. An additional benefit is speed - framing and insulation are combined into one step, and interior work can proceed throughout the winter in complete comfort.
