Healthy homes ensure your indoor environment is a safe place for your family to live. BPC’s team is dedicated to crafting houses that prioritize health while also being more comfortable and better for the environment. Through innovative green building practices and a keen understanding of building science, we construct custom green homes that are simply built better.

What Defines Our Healthy Homes?

  1. Ventilation: Our homes feature Energy Recovery Ventilators (ERVs) that bring in fresh air while expelling stale indoor air.
  2. Filtered Air: We don’t just ventilate; incoming fresh air and recirculated indoor air are filtered to remove pollutants, providing you with healthier indoor air quality.
  3. Moisture and Humidity Control: By managing humidity levels and venting excess moisture, especially from areas like bathrooms and laundry rooms, we prevent mold and mildew growth.
  4. Insulation and Air Sealing: Our homes are virtually draft-free and maintain a consistent temperature throughout, creating a snug and energy-efficient environment free from cold spots or overheating areas.
  5. Safer Building Materials: We use materials that are free from toxic and noxious emissions.

Our Healthy Homes Can Meet Several Green Certifications and Standards

While “healthy home” does not have an official definition, we do build to a number of different green certifications and standards that feature requirements that create a home that is healthier and safer:

  • EPA “Indoor airPLUS”—Every BPC Green Home meets this standard, which underscores our commitment to air quality and health.
  • Net Zero Energy
  • And more

While it is not an active program anymore, BPC also has the distinction of building Connecticut’s first American Lung Association Certified Health House (and we can continue to build houses that meet those certification guidelines).

The Harmony Between Health, Comfort, and Eco-Friendliness

The principles of building a healthy home also contribute to its comfort and environmental benefits. Here are some examples:

  • Our ERV ventilation systems not only improve air quality but also save energy by retaining thermal energy from the outgoing stale air.
  • Superior insulation and air sealing mean lower energy bills and a reduced carbon footprint, as your home requires less heating and cooling.
  • Using non-toxic materials protects the environment by reducing harmful emissions, both during construction and throughout the life of your home.
